Re:SmartAV Tango Controller 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Greetings from Anaheim

I moved my studio to a suite here at the Hilton for the long weekend. Tomorrow's the last day for us - we start breaking down everything Saturday night. Most of our formal meetings with dealers and distributers are done, with a few to pick up tomorrow morning. If anyone is a the show and wants to stop by to take a look tomorrow afternoon - feel free to give me a shout at titanlinemusic at hotmail d0t com

Cheers!

A quick FYI - I just posted some Tango videos showing Nuendo/Cubase integration are up. Bear in mind - they are *not* streaming videos - but should be downloaded and played locally on your own machine. They were shot in HD and I encoded them to a pretty generous 720p data rate. At 4+ minutes per clip, the file sizes are *not* trivial. You should use the "Save Link As..." or like feature in your web browser.

Also bear in mind that I encoded these *both* in mp4 and WMV9 formats - if you have QT7 player or other handler that will play back H.264 encoded files - I recommend you grab the mp4 versions of these files since they're smaller.

Here's the list of vids.

Nuendo Chapter 1
Track Selection & Ergonomic Spreads
mp4 WMV

Nuendo Chapter 2
Automation
mp4 WMV

Nuendo Chapter 3
Transport, Jog & Edit
mp4 WMV

Nuendo Chapter 4
Mix & Control Room
mp4 WMV

Cubase Chapter 1
Transport, Navigation & Zoom
mp4 WMV

Cubase Chapter 2
Rotary Encoders - EQ
mp4 WMV

Cubase Chapter 3
Rotary Encoders - Plugin Control
mp4 WMV

These will probably be up on the SmartAV site in a few days. Also, I expect that streaming versions will show up on YouTube via the audioMIDI.com web site - who's the newest US dealer for SmartAV.

I already see a minor tweak I need to make to one of the Cubase videos for a slight color correction issue that skewed the colors on the opening card (but the rest of the video is fine). If anyone finds an issue with any of the files (save for local download issues), or if you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Thanks!

The videos are now posted on the SmartAV site - rendered to a smaller frame but it also means a much smaller video file size (all are <20M.

Re:SmartAV Tango Controller 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hey gang - I'm in the process of moving and don't have space for a separate mixing room. I love this board but it's time to close ranks and focus on music-making. I've got a world-class engineer that's doing all of my mixing now, and I'm fortunate to have access to a few really amazing rooms at work, so it's time for the Tango to find a new home.

So I've put the Tango + Extension Bay up on eBay. If anyone is interested, lemme know - likewise feel free to pass the word around if you know someone that's considering this board. It's a great chance to get an deal on a world-class control surface.

Hey Houston,

what other controller solution do you have in mind?

Thanks,

Re:SmartAV Tango Controller 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
If I was in a multi-room studio - there would be *no* other solution. The Tango would be *it*.

Such as it is, I'm looking at the Logickeyboard and the Shuttle Pro USB jog/shuttle controller. I'd consider a CC121 but am not sure I'll have room in my work area for it, and since I'm currently considering Logic Pro and Sonar as alternative platforms (currently converting my DAW to a dual-boot Hackintosh) I'm not sure I want to get into proprietary solutions.

So I guess you could say I'm keeping my options open.
