That's Cool, was that from a PC?
My failure was a source file from PT LE (without DV Tool-kit) on an OS X Mac.

My source file was a Nuendo XML on PC that went to PT8 on PC.

Pro Convert will not read a PT8 file as you already know.

My path was various source Formats into ProConvert (mostly Adobe Audition V1.5, but no matter) -- converted to ptf by ProConvert, then failing to open this on a Mac running PT8 LE (No DV toolkit)

So the only Question in my mind is:--
The PC, running v8, is this LE? And is it with/without DV toolkit? Or a HD TDM, system?

have you heard anything about the new pro convert release? i got an email from them in may saying it was due in june the another (off the record) email which saying it was only weeks away – this was in july.

Ideally what we want is:-
1) tell us from what vers of PT you have exported your PT5 & if Mac or PC
2) BTW, no audio or Video files needed, just the PT5
3) a screen grab/picture V much appreciated and will be Very useful [use PrtScn on a PC, or for Mac, Apple - shift - 3]
4) Mono tracks only, please

The official line from digi is all multitrack files (inc stereo) are dropped on a "save copy as" to PT5. Mind you both we & SSL Pro Convert, can often drag enough info out of the saved PT5 files to work, but not that well.

The approach we are going to recommend is to "Split Selected Tracks Into Mono" from the PT File menu.


Other thoughts:-
Nothing too complex - say 2 or 3 audio tracks with 3 or 4 clips scattered about.Though some automation please, Levels Mutes, panning perhaps tho we seem to have that sorted. A "Ruler" in Samples is V useful.

John L: yes but the latest re the Mac vers was "Now available" & that was in March & the reality is, it is still not available! And no updates for the PC vers in the last 8 months.
And I am far from gloating about this, I'm a customer, fan & user, IMO the World needs what they can do, we with AATranslator hope to add to that.

But, BTW there will be a new vers of AATranslator out soon
The plan (cunning in its simplicity) will allow buyers to import ProTools PT5 files for the current, "impoverished muso" price of $39USD, but will be limited by a relatively generous track/clip/audio file limit.

But wait there's more

We will also throw in Sony Vegas XML import support as well; the Vegas XML has much more going for it than Vegas EDL/TXT format, which we already do.

Just a quick note to let you know that version 2.0 has finally been released.

It has a totally rewritten installer so uninstall your old version first – after that any new versions will take care of upgrading things automatically.
The new version has a heap of fixes and enhancements including ‘tip of the day’ and some step by step guides.

It also has a Vegas XML import and for the ‘Standard’ edition a limited ProTools v5 import function (12 tracks, 4 clips or 4 audio files)
This was rather than force everyone to pay for ProTools functionality that they don’t need.
We have already started on a ProTools export function and we have import of Audition’s native SES files for v1.5, 2.0. 3.0 & some versions of Cool Edit Pro already running in beta versions.

A lot of effort has gone into this one so I hope you find it useful.

just fyi the release date for the mac version of pro convert is now 'within two weeks'. time will tell.

AATranslator v2.2 is now available
the latest release gives the ability to import OMF2 files as well as export
to OpenTL format. So that's now 12 import formats & 9 Export. Also there are enhanced Vegas scripts to allow for Track Gain & Track Pan to be included when importing and exporting.

We managed to get a pretty good translation of most OMF dialects as well as the OpenTL format.

We had a lot of problems converting Avid Media Composer Omf's, strangely they seem to have the most variations between software versions of any OMF. Most read fine though, work is still being done and we intend to have a revised version soon. There is a warning to that effect when an Avid omf is detected.

Michael & I have been very busy. A huge number refinements to existing
formats, we start with converting what is supposed to be a given standard,
then as we get more files to play with from our users make sure we can read
& write to the hideous mass of incompatibility that is what DAW
manufacturers actually use.

Guess what, now we are immersed in supporting the output from the "big boys"
in DAW's, you know the ones that have difficulty reading their own files the
latest update has involved some major re-writing. But now we reckon we can
read more PT5 and Final Cut Pro files than Pro-Convert can.

So new stuff in the next release, is PT write (this has been major hard
work) & Ardour read which has a logical well written format, so was sort of
easy.There are now options to ignore, include or just mute multiple layered
hidden clips in Vegas. AATranslator can handle 14 formats, 12 ot these with both import & export.

PT read can now handle way more of the variations of what a PT5 could be,
plus we have better OMF, FCP, Open TL and Sony Vegas support.

Writing OMF is still in beta & won't be that far away.
